This book was amazing, i started reading it and just couldnt put it down. Human trafficking is an awful things and it is so sad that many young girls had to go through the pain and misery of it. They were taken from their homes to raise a little extra cash for their families, but then end up in a whole new world that wasnt heard for. They thought they would be doing simple jobs like cleaning and cooking but what they were told was so far off from the reality that they were to face.
I found it awful that Mumtaz could just do that to poor innocent little children. It just goes to show you just how jacked up the world is. There are some that have tons of money and live in great homes and dont have to do anything to work ofr that money. And then there are spme that are horrible people that would use small young girls for extra cash. I dont really understand what makes a person have to do something that they know is so wrong to the people that dont deserve it.
Lakshmi was very strong though. Although she was lied to and cheated she always had hope and prayed ofr things to get better. she didnt mope around like most did, she stayed strong and held her ground. and even though she was facing the worst of times she always thought of the bright side and remembered all of the things she had done with her family.
The book really got me to think about what is really important in life, and to be grateful for everything that we have. i couldnt even imagine myself being in that situation, i dont even think that i would have hope that things would get better.
Hey Yacine! Really good post. The book seems very interesting and intense. I saw it in Mr.Ravin's library last year but never got around to reading it. From what i have heard about human trafficking is awful, and apparently still goes on all around the world today. It's wonderful when you hear a story about hope and determination, especially in bad situations. It makes me think that sometimes people don't give themselves a fair chance when they don't have hope because they give up, both on themselves and the circumstances of getting better. It was interesting that Lakshmi held her ground even though she knew she could be hurt by doing so, these stories push society to be stronger and pick themselves up from all hard places, and know there is always good in life as well as bad.

ReplyDeleteI appreciate all of the comments given, i would like to emphasize on what annabelle was saying. Human trafficking i agree is awful and i hate that it is still going on. It is amazing that after spending a couple of years with Mumtaz in her new found "home" she was still able to stay strong and never forget her homeland and she never lost hope of getting free. She always counted the days till she would finally be let out, free to go home back to her family and forget that all of that pain she had felt had never happened. But when she was desieved and sold again she had a greater load of money that she had to pay to Mumtaz. Even after that she still never gave up, she begged men to sleep with her telling them that she would make them happy and be good. She became so desperate taking any man that came. And that really devastated me, because she was suffering but she still had to be a prostitute and go to every man that she could find just so that she could pay her debt off to Mumtaz.
